On Saturday night I went to the last ever gig of seven suns, better known as stylus77.
It was amazing, and it's always a shame to see such a band break up like that. One could speculate forever as to why they didn't quite ever take off nationally, but the bottom line is that they were a tight band with a unique sound, which seemed to boom much larger than what you'd expect from a 3 piece.
The set was full of energy with all three musicians looking like they were having plenty of fun, but the climax was indeed the last song (without you), where once the last note was played, that was the last note ever to be heard from stylus77. They jammed around chords for what must have been over 8 minutes, building so much intensity, looking at each other with hints, yet never quite wanting to stop. Finally the set came to a close, and everyone in indigo that night would unanimously agree that Wellington is loosing one of its finest top acts.
If you are in to their stuff, or did want to hear it, they openly told everyone that night to feel free to burn the disk. Adi Dick stated "fuck that record company, we don't get shit from that album."

Quite a funny parting shot to offer a label. I liked them for the first coupla gigs, but that repetion let me realise they really were sounding more like an angry Ben Harper, whilst the man himself began to sound like an angry Marvin Gaye. They were plenty talented though, and hella tight. Sad to see them go, but it'll be interesting to see what happens when they do other things. To think that Bressa Creeting Cake became Goldenhorse, and Supergroove became Che Fu, has always thrilled me with the possibilities of NZ band break ups.

Daniel, Ben Harper is angry.
Yea their repitition and identical keys of every song is noticable, but like I said, no point in picking them appart now.
and is that what became of bressa creeting cake. weirdest band name.

My challenge to you sam, is to make up a saw scenario involving daniel being punished in some way involving che fu. possibly che fu's bottom hole.

Daniel,
i'm sorry man but 'beneath the radar' was possibly THE crappiest album of 2005.

No, sadly, that honour was awarded to acts who were far more shady. The worst? In the year? We're all forgetting Crazy Frog and Shnappy already? Let alone the chaos that was the Now CDs. Or the Blunt/Frankensteinenfrankfurter brigade.
Honestly, I know nothing about Beneath The Radar, but The Navigator was a great album.
